FABA: The inflow of capital from the southbound stock market in Hong Kong has slowed down compared to the same period last year, but high-dividend stocks in Hong Kong are still promising.
He mentioned that he is bullish on high-dividend stocks in the Hong Kong market. Many Chinese companies have already distributed dividends semi-annually, attracting investors to buy in. The performance of high-dividend stocks in Hong Kong has been significantly better than the Hang Seng Index.
Jason Lui, Director of Macro Research and Head of Stock and Derivatives Strategies for the Asia-Pacific region at BNP Paribas Paris Bank, stated that for the Hong Kong stock market, there has been a decrease in southbound funds in recent years. While there was over $180 billion in southbound funds in 2025, there has been a slowdown with only around $30 billion since 2026. He mentioned that in the past, due to the lack of pure AI targets, funds were concentrated in buying Hong Kong stocks of internet platforms. However, this year, there have been more pure AI new stocks listed on both the A-share and Hong Kong stock markets, leading to a more diversified flow of funds. Additionally, he mentioned that he is optimistic about high-dividend stocks in the Hong Kong stock market. He continued to say that the market was shocked by "DeepSeek" in January last year, and a similar event has not yet occurred this year. While Chinese technology companies have new models, their global impact is not as strong as last year. In the past 6-9 months, there have been more pure AI new stocks listed on the Hong Kong and A-share markets, with strong performance surpassing the Hang Seng Tech Index, indicating that investors still view Chinese AI favorably but are now selecting specific companies rather than the entire index. Jason also mentioned that he is optimistic about high-dividend stocks in the Hong Kong stock market. Many Chinese companies have already distributed dividends semi-annually, attracting investors to buy in. High-dividend stocks in Hong Kong have significantly outperformed the Hang Seng Index.
