When calculated in absolute amount, as of April 22, the accrued benefits of MPF investment amounted to approximately 97.6 billion Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to a profit of 20,341.1 Hong Kong dollars per member.
The research institution for Hong Kong's Mandatory Provident Fund, Trillions of MPF, stated that as of April 22, according to the "All Fund Performance Index" calculation, Trillions of MPF currently has an investment growth of approximately 6.35%, poised to recover from the 6.27% loss in March. In absolute terms, as of April 22, Trillions of MPF's investment income reached approximately 97.6 billion Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to a profit of 20,341.1 Hong Kong dollars per member.
The stock fund category, which suffered losses across the board in March, led the rebound in April. Japanese stocks are currently only the seventh best-performing asset category for Trillions of MPF in April, lagging behind global stocks as well as Hong Kong and Chinese mainland stocks.
Taking contributions into account, Trillions of MPF's total assets are expected to reach approximately 1.635 trillion Hong Kong dollars by the end of April, with an average account balance of 341.1 thousand Hong Kong dollars per member, an increase of 20.967 thousand Hong Kong dollars from the end of March.
Francis Chung, Chairman of the independent Trillions of MPF research, viewpoint, and educational institution, today stated that as the market enters the final week of April trading, Trillions of MPF is not only expected to recover from the record 102 billion Hong Kong dollars loss in March but also set a new high in total asset size by the end of April. Mr. Chung pointed out that this rebound will provide relief to members, but he cautioned once again: in volatile market conditions, if members use Trillions of MPF funds for short-term market speculation instead of diversified investment and long-term holding, and fail to achieve sustained stable returns, the responsibility lies solely with themselves.
