The Hong Kong investment management company, considered as "Hong Kong version of Temasek", manages HKD 62 billion in government capital, with its CEO Chen Jiaqi taking office at the end of last year.
Regarded as the "Hong Kong version of Temasek", the Hong Kong investment management company manages a capital of 62 billion yuan on behalf of the government, and its CEO, Clara Chan, took office at the end of last year. Clara Chan stated in a media interview that the first batch of direct and joint investment projects will be completed in June, with many more projects scheduled to land in the future, focusing on the themes of hard technology, life technology, and green technology. Clara Chan said that Hong Kong Investment's positioning is "steady and pragmatic, doing practical things". Therefore, when investing, they will tailor investment plans using a "combined approach", setting strategies according to the characteristics or stages of the investment projects. They do not necessarily have to be shareholders and can invest in bonds, options, etc. They often design and tailor investment methods according to different projects and tracks. She also emphasized that when investing, the company pays most attention to diversification, having the right to choose and speak, and holding shares does not necessarily have to exceed 50%. They can also act as strategic small investors in projects, have seats on the board of directors, or possess key veto power, ensuring the efficient and smart use of capital. Clara Chan stated that the Hong Kong Investment Company is very clear in selecting projects and partners, focusing on three themes: hard technology, life technology, and new energy or green technology. She explained that hard technology such as artificial intelligence, data science, semiconductors, and RISC-V will bring disruptive changes to the tech industry; Hong Kong has a strong position in life technology, with two of the world's top 50 medical schools located in the city; energy is fundamental to all economic and social developments, and under global warming, new energy or green technology is a priority. Clara Chan mentioned that the B and C rounds of financing in Hong Kong's startup funding chain are relatively weak, so the Hong Kong Investment Company will explore ways to help in this area, creating an ecosystem that is beneficial to Hong Kong and can supplement the funding chain for startups. She also stated that if companies are interested in partnering with the Hong Kong Investment Company, they would encourage them to show sincerity by first hosting themed events in Hong Kong, with the theme for June being the artificial intelligence large language model.
