Swiss private equity group establishes office in Hong Kong, predicting that Hong Kong will become the world's largest offshore wealth center.
The new office is the seventh office opened by the United Group in Asia, bringing the total number of global offices to 21.
On June 21, Partners Group, one of the largest companies in the global private equity market industry, announced the opening of an office in Hong Kong to further expand its business in Asia. Xu Jiajie has been appointed as the head of the Hong Kong office, and he will also serve as the head of the private wealth department for the Asia-Pacific region. This new office is the seventh office opened by Partners Group in Asia, bringing the total number of their global offices to 21. The Asia-Pacific Partner and Chairman of Partners Group, Jason Lu, expressed his excitement about expanding the business in Hong Kong to broaden the regional business scope. Hong Kong serves as a key role in the private equity market, being a major economic center and regional hub in the Greater Bay Area. With the increasing demand from investors for the private equity market in the Greater China region, Partners Group looks forward to further deepening relationships with customers and investment partners in Hong Kong. Xu Jiajie stated that Hong Kong is the world's second largest offshore wealth center and is poised to surpass Switzerland to become the largest offshore wealth center globally. He hopes to expand the business in the Greater China region using Hong Kong as a starting point. While the group also has an office in Shanghai primarily for investment analysis, the focus in Hong Kong is on wealth management. Currently, the team consists of around 5-10 people, and it is believed that the two markets can complement each other. The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of Hong Kong, Christopher Hui, mentioned that the expansion of Partners Group's business reflects Hong Kong's significant role in the international financial sector. With the push from Partners Group and other wealth management companies, assets in the private equity market are expected to become a mainstream asset class. Partners Group is a global private equity company based in Switzerland, involved in private equity, private infrastructure, private real estate, and private debt. The company manages various funds, structured products, and custom investment portfolios for international clients such as institutional investors, private banks, and other financial institutions.
